Now Is the Time to Start Planning Your Year-End Campaign

Year-end giving may feel like a December priority, but waiting until December to prepare your campaign can create unnecessary pressure and leave important opportunities on the table.
A successful year-end campaign starts with a plan.
Begin by establishing clear fundraising goals and deadlines. Then work backward from those dates to determine when your messaging, creative, donor data, digital channels, and printed materials need to be ready.

Your donor experience should be part of that planning, too. Is your donation page easy to find? Do your donation buttons stand out? Are your forms mobile-friendly? Have you tested every link and payment option? These may seem like small details, but they can create unnecessary barriers when donors are ready to give.
Your communications should also work together. Direct mail, email, social media, and your website shouldn't feel like separate campaigns. They should reinforce the same message and guide donors toward the same goal.
And don't forget production.
If your campaign includes appeal letters, postcards, reply devices, inserts, envelopes, event materials, or other printed pieces, production needs to be part of the timeline from the beginning. Design, proofing, printing, postage, and mailing all take time.
The earlier you plan, the more time your team has to review, test, improve, and adjust.
Year-end fundraising is one of the busiest periods of the nonprofit calendar. Getting ahead of the work now means your team can focus on reaching donors instead of solving preventable problems at the last minute.
Your year-end campaign doesn't begin when you send the appeal. It begins with the preparation behind it.
